Anime Moment- Apothecary Diaries

It’s been a very long time since I was able to dig into a good anime. Maybe I wasn’t looking in the right place, but then I heard about the Apothecary Diaries. I’m only through the end of Season 1, but it’s been a great ride so far.

Admittedly, when I started watching, I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy it as much as I have since things that are hyped as much as this series was and is also might suffer from being overhyped. It’s also very different from shows I’ve watched in the past, Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Dragonball Z are just a few of the main series. It only took a little while for me to start becoming fully immersed in this world, and soon I was laughing at how flirty Jinshi and Maomao are, even if one or the other is clueless about it. The romance isn’t the main focus; it’s this young woman who keeps her social status while still rubbing elbows with some of the most influential people in her world. And Maomao doesn’t let anyone forget she’s “just a servant” even though everyone around her is willing to go to bat for her whenever they can. They also recognize that Maomao can pull off extraordinary things if they give her the tools and means to do so. The latter fact is why I think she wasn’t pulled into work in the pleasure district by the “old woman” despite her threats. She knew that Maomao could do way more for the people there if she worked with her adopted father.

I’ll probably have more coherent thoughts later, but I figured this dusty old blog was a good place to start having them. I know I have a bit more of the Apothecary Diaries to go, but what anime shows would you suggest I watch?
